The Importance of First Birthday Pictures
If you already have newborn pics, you might be wondering if first birthday pictures are really a necessity. In my opinion? Yes, absolutely! Over the past year, your baby has grown so much both physically and emotionally. Their sweet little personalities are starting to emerge, and this is your chance to let them show it off! Plus, it is a great opportunity to update your portraits while capturing a unique moment of childhood.
What to Wear for First Birthday Pictures
Now, it’s time to plan your baby’s outfit for the day. If you could use a little inspiration, you can head over to my Instagram page and see some of my past sessions. Basically, I always recommend sticking with light or pastel colors. These always photograph beautifully while giving you the chance to bring in colorful backdrops! Make sure the outfit is comfortable and lets your baby move around as much as they’d like. As always, you will also receive a family prep guide to help you navigate dressing your family for success. And Mom will have access to my client closet of dresses!
What’s Included?
The only thing you really need to bring to your first birthday pictures session is your well-rested and freshly fed baby, their outfit of choice, and a smash cake (more on that in a sec!). I can take care of the rest. Before your session, we will talk about whether you would prefer an outdoor session or a studio location. I will set everything up and bring along a white blanket. Following your session, you will receive access to an online gallery with heirloom-quality, edited photos so you can print out the ones of your choice. I offer two packages for milestone sessions. You can opt to book a full family session so that everyone can be included on the fun and so that we can update your family portraits. Or if you would rather just keep things short and sweet, you can book a milestone session alone for just baby.
What Parents Love to Bring to Make The Session Unique
A lot of parents ask what extra items they can bring along to make this session truly unique. If you intend on doing a smash cake, be sure to order it well ahead of time. I always suggest checking out Lauren from Sweet Willow Bakery! Items such as colorful balloons are always great for a backdrop. From there, I suggest bringing along sentimental items such as a little rocking chair or a rocking horse. These are the perfect props while adding a meaningful element to your session.
