Whether you call this city your home or you’re just passing through, Houston is full of family activities guaranteed to give you memories you’ll hold onto for years to come. You can take a walk through nature, meet some cuddly animals, or even reach the stars. Literally, the sky is the limit! As a Houston family photographer, I love working with parents to create memories they’ll want to keep for years. If you are looking for your next great adventure, here are the best family-friendly things to do in Houston.
Get Out Of The House With These Exciting Family-Friendly Things To Do In Houston
Houston Zoo

6200 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, Texas 77030
The Houston Zoo is open year round with plenty of family-friendly things to do. This amazing space has hundreds of animals from red pandas to rhinoceroses, gorillas to tigers. As you check out over 600 species, you can feed the giraffes, take a spin on the Wildlife Carousel, or spend some time with your kiddos at the Children’s Zoo. We love going for our kids’ birthdays for free carousel rides, and they always have an amazing time. The zoo also features a cafeteria where you can refuel to spend the entire day walking through the many different exhibits. Kids three and under are free!
Space Center Houston

1601 E NASA Parkway, Houston, Texas 77058
Another birthday favorite for our space fanatic! If your child loves learning about the worlds beyond our own like ours does, Space Center Houston is your family-friendly spot! This museum gives you an interactive way to learn about space exploration. You can check out the spacesuit collection or get a behind-the-scenes look at NASA Johnson Space Center on a tram tour. They offer tickets through their website, and kids 3 and under get free admission!
Children’s Museum Houston
1500 Binz St, Houston, Texas 77004
If you have a curious kid, plan a visit to the Children’s Museum Houston! For over 45 years, this center has been helping kids learn through play. When you stop by, your family can check out hands-on exhibits that will teach your child math, science, and so much more. They also have a Tot Spot specifically created for kids under the age of 3.
Houston Museum of Natural Science
5555 Hermann Park Dr, Houston, Texas 77030
The Houston Museum of Natural Science gives your child a family-friendly way to learn about the history of the world. As you explore this center, you can check out the butterfly center or take a stroll through the Hall of Texas Wildlife. If you want to learn more about past civilizations, you can see permanent exhibits that showcase their culture. The center even has an exhibit on Ancient Egypt, complete with actual mummies!
Discovery Green
1500 McKinney St, Houston, Texas 77010

If you are looking for something free to do this weekend, check out Discovery Green! This outdoor village offers nearly 12 acres of adventure. You can check out public artwork or take a ride on the bumper boats. There are sports courts, playgrounds, and a splash pad. As you start to wind down, take a stroll through the gardens before stopping for a meal at one of the on-site restaurants. Truly, it’s impossible to run out of things to do here!
