Best Family Photo Locations in Houston, Texas

Locations

One of my most frequently asked questions is where are my favorite family photo locations in houston Texas? After living in Houston for five years and trying tons of locations, I have narrowed down my top best locations for family photos. While some locations I do prefer to keep a secret for my own clients, I would love to help you out and share my top five public photo locations in this blog post! These are my top seven picks when it comes to choosing the best location for your family photos in Houston, Texas and other surrounding areas.

friends pose together with pet dog for a photo session in Buffalo Bayou Park
  1. Buffalo Bayou Park

Buffalo Bayou park is a great open city park with a few fountains and open trails. You’ll see some greenery but the main boast is that you can see parts of the city scape in the background. I captured this cute friend reunion there and it was amazing for including their furry friend. There is even a dog park in Buffalo Bayou so if you do feel like letting your pup get wiggles out before or after your session that would be a great option! The main concern with Buffalo Bayou is that parking can be a bit tricky. Morning times work best to secure the most ideal parking spots located all around the circular park.

2. The Houston Arboretum

This one is my personal favorite for Houston! You will completely forget you’re even in a city. This public park is free admittance with the exception of parking, which is easily done through an app. At the Houston Arboretum you’ll see so many gorgeous trails filled with greenery, fluffy bushes, and gorgeous light- which of course is my favorite tool in making photos look more like an art piece than just a standard portrait. The Houston Areboretum also has an indoor museum with nature artifacts and live animals that is very fun for kids to see. It also features a beautiful nature themed play ground with a real working water pump! (We love to go all the time just for fun!)

3. The Lumen Room

This is my favorite studio in Houston Texas! The Lumen Room is an open modern looking space with large windows for optimum lighting, plenty of furniture to use as props, and they’re very easy and professional to work with as a company. I love the studio for newborn sessions, family sessions, and maternity sessions! They also have seasonal sets for Christmas.

4. W.G. Jones Park

This whimsical looking forest is filled with rows of tall trees and beautiful golden light in the evenings. There are a few walking trails and a pond on one side of the park. You can also seasonally find blooms along the trails. I especially love this location in the Spring and Fall.

5. The Oak Atelier Studio

The Oak Atelier is my very favorite high end studio. You do have to be a member in order to book sessions here. I am happy to offer this location to my clients who prefer air conditioning in warmer months or just a whimsical change to outdoor locations. At The Oak Atelier Studio, we have access to gorgeous antique furniture and have the choice between several unique rooms in the house, or two amazing glass houses outside. Many of my seasonal mini sessions are held here featuring their seasonal set ups. To see what minis are available now, click HERE.

6. Light and Joy Studio.

My favorite studio in Kingwood for a simple white background, classic furniture, and access to a park just outside the door is Light and Joy Studio. I love using this studio for cake smash sessions, baby milestones, and occasionally family portraits. You don’t have to be a photographer to book session times here, though having a professional to help guide you always helps your end result be top quality.

7. East End Park

This beautiful public park has wooded trails and open fields to offer. I love this field especially in the fall when the wheat grass is in full bloom. A Kingwood Sticker is required for parking, but otherwise the park is completely free. It does tend to be a very popular spot for photos, so I would recommend a morning time, or going with someone who knows plenty of great spots in the park to go in case the main area is too crowded.
