5 Ways to Prepare for Your Spring Family Photography Session

You did it! You booked the Spring Family Session of your dreams and you’re so excited for the ethereal moments and beautiful photos… but now what? Preparing your family for photos can seem like a daunting task. In this blog post, I’m going to walk you through five ways to prepare for your Spring Family Photography session so that you can arrive feeling your best and leave the stress behind.

Location For Spring Family Photos

  1. FIRST Select a location settled within a calm environment. My location guide is sent your way whenever you book a session with me which includes a list of my top favorite outdoor locations. These locations have been carefully selected and tested for low people traffic, and a wide open space where you and your family can play in a care-free, fun, explorative way together. Not to mention, they are also light approved which is the number one most important factor to achieving my signature look in Spring Family Photos.

Outfit Planning

2. SECOND outfit planning! (My FAVORITE!) Whether you’ve opted to partake in my client dress collection or use your own wardrobe, I always suggest selecting your dress first, Mom. From there it becomes easy to select complimenting soft tones or patterns for the other family members. Having outfits that not only make you feel your best but are also flattering is a solid way to boost confidence for your session overall and also result in fantastic photos.

Let’s Talk About Spring Family Photos Together

3. NEXT, talk through your expectations with each family member. It’s important to communicate with your spouse how much these Spring Family Photos means to you and how excited you are for this family session. My goal is to make it fun for everyone, so don’t worry I promise we focus on memory making and not just a bunch of aiming for perfection. It’s also important to communicate your excitement to your kids! You can let them know that we will be playing lots of games together, smiling and laughing a lot, and that you can’t wait to be in photos with them and look through your gallery together. For those who are too young to understand delayed gratification at all, it helps to talk about the special treat they’ll get to enjoy between photos. (Mini marshmallows are a fan fave).

Prep as much as you can the night before…

4. THEN, do as much prep the night before- especially if we have a morning session. Iron or steam outfits and lay out everyone’s socks and shoes with their outfits along with bows/accessories to make getting ready a breeze. Book a hair and makeup appointment for yourself through one of my recommended vendors if you want to really take any guess work out of session prep. Pack your treats/bribes in a special bag with a brush, hair spray, and I mean honestly bug spray because… Texas.

Set the tone for the magic to take place

5. FINALLY, play fun music on the way. Continue to hype up the session and talk about how great Mrs. Allie is going to be. 😉 Keep the mood as light hearted as you possibly can. As moms, we are the thermostat to our homes and everyone reads off of our emotions. So try as best as you can to go into the day relaxed and ready to enjoy a genuinely fun occasion centered around the ones you love the most and who love YOU so dearly.

Still need to reserve your session in my calendar? No worries friend, I saved room for you! I am so looking forward to spending time with you and your beautiful family!
